Severson Collection

World War I aviation and early exploratory flights book collection at George Latimer Central Library

A collection of aviation materials generously donated to the Saint Paul Public Library by Donald Severson. For 44 years Donald Severson collected books on civil and military aircraft and early exploratory flights ranging roughly from the period of 1900 to the present.

The books in this collection came from many bookstores throughout England and the United States. Some of the books had very limited publication and the collection includes Fighting the Flying Circus by Eddie Rickenbacker. Rickenbacker was known as the top-scoring American ace of the First World War.

Donald Severson attributes his passion for collecting aviation books to Eddie Rickenbacker. With this collection, Donald Severson hopes that he can inspire a child to have the same passion for collecting and flying.

The collection is available at the George Latimer Central Library.
