Notary Services

Notary Public services are available at most Saint Paul Public Library locations.

When notary services are available depends on the work schedules and responsibilities of the notary public library staff.

On the day you need Notary services, please contact a library to confirm whether a Notary Public will be available at that location.

Notary services will be offered until not later than one half hour before the library closes.

The fee for notary public services is $1.00 for each notarial act per Minnesota Statute 357.17.

Payment accepted in cash or check only.

Please note:

  • Patrons must provide a valid, government-issued ID to receive notary services.
  • Staff cannot advise on forms, documents or notarial acts to be used.
  • Staff cannot complete I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification forms.

SPPL notary public staff are not authorized to notarize the following types of documents while working at the library:

  • Wills
  • Real estate documents, including quit claim deeds
  • Lien releases
  • Original birth, death, or marriage certificates.
  • Power of attorney (POA) documents that involve the sale or transfer of funds or property; library staff may, however, authorize POA forms that involve clarifying or granting authority between spouses or parents and children. These approved forms may include documents such as medical directives, Delegation of Parental Authority (DOPA) or permission for juveniles to travel.

Any forms that may pose the risk of fraud, or do not include the appropriate documentation, or otherwise do not meet State guidelines for notarization may be refused at the discretion of the notary.

Saint Paul Public Library notary staff are not attorneys licensed to practice law in Minnesota and may not give legal advice or accept fees for legal advice per Minnesota Statute 359.062
