Celebrating Pride Month: Low-Key Edition

When you think of Pride Month, you might think of parades, festivals, and joyful community gathering. But as much as we are here for all of those high energy things, we also know there's plenty of ~*chill*~ in Pride, as well. Here at the Library, there are many options for people looking to honor and celebrate Pride with a much more *introverted* energy--even if you aren't an introvert! This June, we invite you to celebrate Pride Month on your own terms—with resources and spaces that welcome everyone, including those who prefer a more low-key kind of Pride.

Celebrate with LGBTQ+ Stories

Books can be powerful companions during Pride Month. Whether you’re seeking stories that reflect your identity or help you learn about others’ experiences, the library has something for you. Explore curated staff picks:

Explore Pride Displays at the Library

Most Saint Paul Public Library locations are celebrating Pride Month with themed book displays and self-guided discovery activities. Whether you stop by to browse, pick up something new, or spend a few quiet moments in a cozy reading nook, the library offers space to reflect and connect.

You’ll find:

  • Pride-themed reading displays
  • Books and zines by queer authors and artists
  • Colorful, inclusive spaces where everyone is welcome

Make Something Meaningful in the Innovation Lab

Sometimes celebrating Pride means making space to express who you are. Through writing, art, or hands-on creativity, the Innovation Lab gives you tools to reflect and share your story.

Check out the zine-making kits (available for in-library use only) or art supplies for self-directed journaling or collage activities. Or, join a low-key event designed for connection and creativity in a relaxed setting. Attend a craft circle, drawing circle, knitting or sewing class, poetry workshop, or a Lab After Dark event with a small group of friends. These welcoming, small-group gatherings are a great way to celebrate Pride through creativity—without the pressure of a big crowd.

Feel Like Doing Both?

You can keep things quiet and join the party—find us at Youth Pride on June 6 or stop by the Twin Cities Pride Festival June 27-29 and say hi! You'll find us at the MELSA booth along with other metro libraries. Come grab a button, pick up a booklist, or just share in the celebration.

Happy Pride from Saint Paul Public Library

Whether you’re out and proud, quiet and questioning, or somewhere in between, we see you. We support you. And we’re so glad you’re here.
