Library Go and the New Website: What You Need to Know

Saint Paul Public Library just launched a new website that includes an integrated events calendar and a more user-friendly catalog. What does this mean for students using Library Go?

Using online resources like CultureGrams and Britannica

There is no impact. You can continue accessing resources that require a library card login using your 22091600 + student ID and date of birth.

Using the new online catalog to browse or check out books and e-books

You will always be able to log in to your account using 22091600 + student ID and date of birth, but you now have the option of creating a unique username that is easier to remember! When you log into the new website, you will be prompted to create an account where you will have the option to include a unique username. Please make sure that the date of birth information in the account creation setup is accurate.

For students younger than 13

The Child Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA) prohibits kids under 13 from entering "free text" online. This means that when students younger than 13 go through the new account creation process, an automated username will be created based on their favorite animal, color and a random string of numbers. Kids will not be able to add comments to titles in the catalog or create their own custom book lists. It's important that younger students check the date of birth in the account creation process for accuracy so that their account is in compliance with COPPA.

When students turn 13, they will be prompted to create their own username and will have full access to all the catalog's features.
